NOTD - Marni for H&M inspired nail art

Two weeks ago, I bought some pieces from the Marni at H&M collection. I have been so busy that I had only had a chance to unpack today and photograph them. As I was taking photos of them, I was formulating what I was going to do to my nails this week. And I thought of this fun Marni inspired nail art design.
It is extremely easy to do.  All you need is a lot of patience, 4 different nail colours, three fine tip nail art brushes and a cardboard or tray.

For me, I tried to get as close to the Marni colours as my nail polish collection would allow. There is no trick to this DIY design. I did this free hand and it is pretty obvious considering the lines on my right hand are all jagged.

  1. For the base, I started with a base coat, let dry then applied OPI in Skulls and Crossbones (a faint dried cement gray) on all my nails.
  2. Let dry.
  3. Starting closest to the cuticle, I used one of the nail art brush to draw 4 to 5 thin lines, stopping close to the middle of each nail, using Sephora by OPI in Too Too Turq (a slight metallic turquoise blue, part of the New Betsey Johnson for Sephora collection).
  4. Let dry.
  5. This time, starting towards the tip of each nail, using another nail art brush, draw 4 to 5 (to match the same number of lines in step 2, of course), using OPI in Sparrow Me The Drama (a powdery pink).
  6. Let dry.
  7. Finish off with Sally Hansen in midnight black, using another nail art brush, to draw small dots in between the two colours.
  8. Let dry and seal with top coat.
The tray or cardboard is for cleaning off excess nail polish so you don't accidently get a big blob of nail colour on your manicured nails.

This is the Marni for H&M top that inspired it all. I will post more of what I actually bought tomorrow. I am too tired to write another blog tonight. >.<

The blue is from this new Betsey Johnson for Sephora by OPI collection.
As a teaser, this will be one of the gift included in my giveaway at the end of March. Don't worry, it will be a new, un-used set. Official contest details will be posted on March 30.
